Bombay Sapphire is a modern classic of London Dry gin, launched in the late twentieth century and now owned by Bacardi. Instantly recognisable for its blue bottle, it helped broaden the appeal of premium gin by presenting a lighter, more aromatic style without losing the dry, juniper-led structure expected of the category.
The gin is produced at Laverstoke Mill in Hampshire, a restored former paper mill that now serves as the brand's distillery and visitor home. Its character comes from a vapour-infusion process, in which spirit vapour passes through a basket of botanicals, capturing flavour more gently than traditional steeping methods.
Bombay Sapphire is built around ten botanicals, including juniper, lemon peel, coriander, angelica, orris, liquorice, almond, cassia, cubeb and grains of paradise. The result is bright, crisp and fragrant, with citrus lift, soft spice and a relatively delicate texture that makes it especially versatile in mixed drinks.
Its appeal lies in balance and accessibility. Bombay Sapphire is polished enough for a Martini, fresh enough for a gin and tonic, and distinctive enough to remain one of the most recognisable names in contemporary gin.
